David Merlin est un artiste peintre spécialisé dans la création de portraits et d’oeuvres expressives. Montréalais d’adoption, mais Parisien d’origine, son inspiration provient notamment de l’art cinématographique, mais aussi de l’histoire et de la littérature. Sur ses toiles, l'artiste projette l’image personnelle qu’il se fait de différents personnages et de leurs émotions, tout en apportant une certaine ambiguïté quant à la vision qu'ils peuvent offrir auprès du spectateur. Les sujets de ses oeuvres sont choisis selon leur parcours ainsi que l'aura qu’ils dégagent. L'influence de plusieurs courants musicaux, particulièrement la musique classique, vient également enrichir l'univers de ses portraits. Grâce à l’utilisation du clair-obscur et des plans rapprochés, Merlin créé des oeuvres fascinantes illustrant une grande variété de caractères. Du visage patibulaire d’un homme buriné par le soleil, au teint blafard d’une jeune femme pensive, chacun dégage une présence que l’on peut apprécier à sa manière !

Montrealer by adoption but Parisian by origin, his inspiration comes especially from cinema, but also from history and litterature. On his paintings, the artist projects a personal view of the different characters and their emotions, while bringing some ambiguity as to the vision they can offer to the viewer. The subjects of his works are selected according to their background as well as the aura they exude . The influence of several musical styles , especially classical music, also enriches the universe of his portraits. Through the use of chiaroscuro and close-ups , Merlin creates fascinating works illustrating a wide variety of characters. From the sinister face of a man weathered by the sun, to the pale complexion of a pensive young woman, each emanates a presence that can be appreciated in its own way !
