Marie-Eve Proteau travaille avec des matériaux hors norme qui abolissent la distinction entre le pictural et le sculptural. Elle récupère d’anciens téléviseurs et leur redonne vie en tant que support d’une représentation à jamais figée. Une iconographie féminine trouble habite les toiles-objets sous forme de portraits surréalistes ou les émotions sont puisées dans la complexité de la relation à l’autre; l’attente, l’obsession, le secret, la domination. Les rendus plastiques sont laissés en contradiction avec des sous-entendus picturaux plus tendus et inquiétants.  



La polyvalence des ambiances traitées est en constante évolution et la féminité laisse parfois la place à des univers plus androgynes. Les rendus plastiques léchés sont en contradiction avec des sous-entendus picturaux plus tendus et inquiétants. Bachelière en arts plastiques de l’Université Laval, ses oeuvres furent présentées au Québec, au Canada et au Japon.

 

 

 

Marie-Eve Proteau works with unconventional materials which abolish the distinction between the pictural and the sculptural.  She works with some old retro televisions and gives life back to them by becoming the medium of a representation forever motionless. A painting is inserted within the frame of an old television of various designs in order to create art works from household objects which in turn can take a brand-new form. Painted and altered, the televisions emerge as a sculptural whole bound with the painting in its heart.  Going beyond the limits and entering into a world of images where the unreal, the multiplicity and the perfection blend into a unique canvas gives a new soul to the entire work. Some paintings on canvas in relation with the concept are also created.



Various formats, colors, ornaments, and textures give the televisions a renewed elegance, unifying painting and sculpture into an unconventional style of presentation. Sensuousness and mystery are depicted on the television screens. A feminine theme prevails in these paintings-objects. The colored sensuality of surrealist portraits melts into a misty atmosphere full of symbols suggesting a relationship between two people; expectation, worry, obsession, secret, domination. The translucent textures are in contradiction with some more disturbing allusions. She completed her Bachelor of fine Arts Degree at the Université Laval in Quebec and her paintings were presented in Quebec, Canada, New-York and Japan.
